Sleep Deprived Productions Releases New Demo

After a long wait Sleep Deprived Productions finally has its new Demo Reel ready for display! This is the culmination of years of work and experience. As with any demo reel, its only as current as the most recent job. Which is why so few ever get completed; because there's always another job. Thanks to summer 2008 there was finally a little time to put one of these things together for the general public!

"It seems like the only people with demos are people without jobs" says creator Adam Benson of Sleep Deprived Productions. "Anyone that has regular work doesn't have time for a demo reel, so then, when you need work, you never seem to have anything to show anybody". This may be a common problem for working artists. Steve Wargo of Show-N-Tell Video Productions is often in the same situation having 26 years of high quality work, bad ass video projects, top-notch clientele and the best gear that money can buy and no time to put a demo reel together.
The only time that a lack of a demo reel is a problem is when you are trying to capture new clients, or new jobs. Unfortunately this is your time to shine. Your current clients know the quality of your work and the caliber of your products which is why they hire you, but the new person or company has no idea of any of that. The catch 22 is if you have a large base of regular work and clientele, it's nearly impossible to spend a couple of weeks putting together a demo reel collection for that new prospect, but you need that demo to really show off your "best foot forward".
What some people or companies do is to hire out someone to independently put a demo reel together for them. This is a really ideal situation because, the independent party will look at your material with a completely objective eye, and can often put your demo together better than you could yourself simply because of this objectivity.
"Unfortunately, we rarely take our own advice. While we have occasionally been the outsourcer to put together other people's demo reels, when it comes to our own... well, this time we did it ourselves" Says Benson. "It was a stroke of double luck that gave us the opportunity to put this new demo together. The bad luck was that we had no business for a few weeks in the summer; the good luck was that it gave us a chance to put together this new demo. We're really excited about this!"
A good demo can open the door to a wide variety of opportunities. Whether you put it together yourself, or pay someone else to do it for you, in the modern age of YouTube Videos and easy access on the internet, not having a demo reel is almost worse than having a bad demo reel!
