Sleep Deprived Productions got its start as Sleep Deprived Films in 2005 when a series of short film projects kept principle members of its production and post production team from sleeping more than two to four hours a night for nearly six weeks to get four short films and five episodes of a television show done on time to air. It was after only three weeks that the Visual Effects Supervisor and Cinematographer said to the Editor, "This should be called a Sleep Deprived Film". Thus, the idea was born and within a few weeks things got put in motion to form a bonefide production company.
In early 2006, Sleep Deprived Films became the sole proprietorship of Adam Benson, the Visual Effects Supervisor who had originally coined the phrase. However, the principle engagements of Sleep Deprived Films had little to do with filmmaking at all and tended to deal more with specific aspects of production; in particular Visual Effects, Editing and Music Production. So, in late 2007 the name was changed to Sleep Deprived Productions to more accurately cover more of what goes on here.
Adam Benson started his career in music in 1992 as the guitarist and singer of the Post-Modern Alternative band "Eight Minutes To Earth". It was seven years in this group that lead to an extended recording career, both as the artist and the engineer. When the group parted ways in early 1999 Benson continued recording and playing music. Over the years his recording studio and capabilites grew with his experience.
In 1993 Adam Benson began doing print media mainly as a means to create, print and publish band fliers, but as the years went on his skills with digital art began to be sought after by other artists and companies. In 1997 he went back to college to study multimedia and graphic arts. However, things took a logical turn in late 2000 when he was introduced to the art of 3D Modeling, Animation and Visual Effects. This lead to a desire to focus much of his attention on 3D digital art and pushed him to move to Phoenix Arizona in 2003 to pursue a second degree in 3D Animation and Visual Effects.
Because of his experience with music Adam had an excellent grasp of rhythm, which lended itself to an unintentional editing career. Having been editing animation and music videos together since 2000 he became one of the favored editors of filmmaker Paul DeNigris ("The Falls") and began doing editing professionally in 2004. Since that time his recording studio was quickly expanded into an Editing, Visual Effects AND Recording Studio.
Sleep Deprived Productions now encompasses all of these aspects of production; Music, Visual Effects, and Editing. And since its inception has gained the talents and experience of other artists who frequently work in tandem with Sleep Deprived Productions to make sure the jobs get done, and get done right! In early 2008 the music recording side of the business became Trampled Fruit Records.
Trampled Fruit Records became a subsidiary of Sleep Deprived Productions to help seperate the niche of music recording seperate from the art of production. Sleep Deprived Productions is currently in the process of starting an online radio program called "Atomic Radio", at www.atomicradioshow.com or www.atomic-radio.com. Furthermore, we are in the process of starting and supporting several charitable foundations, including one dedicated to helping women with no insurance who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and another to support research for people suffering from dimensia. All of these things are goals we have set in our immediate future and are part of an expansion project to move the company toward ever loftier achievements.
